Our advice is to purchase your ski pass from the ski kiosks in the tourist office building  in the morning of your first day of skiing (or the evening before).

• it is the same price as online (comment below if this is not correct)
• just in case you are delayed travelling and can't ski on the first day (better to buy your pass once you can start skiing)
• just in case high winds mean nearly all the lifts are closed
• just in case someone in your party is ill
• claiming insurance on missed skiing is a hassle and probably not worth it due to the excess
• it is easier to see the options (Meribel-Mottaret only - beginners pass - family pass - three valley pass etc) when you are in resort
• the beginner's pass is only available in resort
• there is rarely much of a queue

There are some benefits to buying your pass online

• very convenient if you have a rechargeable pass from last year that you can recharge online (this will definitely save time) and you have a record of the purchase
• they can post it to you if you purchase it in advance (need to buy it well in advance - at least 8 days for post to Europe)
• you save precious moments on that first day of skiing by collecting your passes from the tourist office (but perhaps simpler to just buy it in resort from the kiosk)
• avoid possible disaster if your payment card doesn't work when buying in resort

There are a number of different passes available.

• 3 valleys
• meribel only
• meribel beginner pass  (can only bought daily and in resort)
• pedestrian pass

It is tempting to try and save money and get a Meribel Valley pass and get an extension on one of the days.... my advice is to get a Three Valleys pass for six days and get the family pass option.   There are many easy blue runs accessed from the tops of the Mottaret lifts  (eg Creux from top of Pas Du Lac, or Grand Lacs from top of Plattieres).    It is so expensive to ski as it is and being in Mottaret it is a shame not to make use of the skiing that is available.

Weather, illness and injury permitting it is usually best value to buy a six day pass and if possible to get family pass.

Group discount

• duo pass  - two people get about 2.75% off each (only full paying adults or teens) on a 6 day pass
• tribu pass - three adults get about 3.9% off each  (but only full paying adults - not seniors) on a 6 day pass
• family pass - two adults and two children get about 20% off each against a full price pass on a 6 day pass

Age discount

• Under 5's free
• 5 to 12 - 20% off
• 13 to 17 - full price  (but see the family pass option)
• 18 to 64 - full price
• 65 to 74 - 10% off
• Over 75's
• Group discount

Off peak times discounts

• 20% less for one day passes on Saturdays for the Three Valleys
• About 20% discount in the first week  (about 8th December)
• About 10% discount in the second week  (about 15th December)
• About 10% discount in the last ten days of the season (from about 13th April)

Reduce ski area 

• About 15% discount for a Meribel Valley only pass as opposed to a full Three Valleys pass
• Beginner's area (the beginner's areas in Meribel and Mottaret)
